Thai AirAsia (AAV.BK/AAV TB)* has scrapped a plan to diversify into commuter services that offer short-distance and interprovincial routes using turboprop aircraft. "We've taken a hard look at the plan and found it not interesting to engage," chief executive Tassapon Bijleveld told the Bangkok Post. Thailand's largest budget carrier earlier this year studied the possibility of establishing a commuter carrier, also termed a regional airline. (Bangkok Post)

Itochu Corp, Japans third-largest trading company, agreed to a business tie-up with Thailands agriculture group Charoen Pokphand (CPF.BK/CPF TB)* Thursday as the two companies seek to expand their food businesses. Itochu will buy an $852mn stake in Hong Kong-based unit CP Pokphand Co and the Thai company will take $1bn of Itochu's stock in the deal, according to separate statements from the companies.
